“Micro Narratives,” coined by Linda Lai in 2003, frames her conceptual-critical exploration of moving image creation, extended to experimental art actions in general. Challenging grand narratives and monumental histories, the “micro” turns to small acts and concrete doings often omitted from regime accounts and economic success stories. It retrains our attention to the textures and complexities of everyday life, revealing visible and invisible linkages of contemporary existence. Nothing small is trivial.

What, then, is sight-and-sound creation as a micro-narrative practice?

Workshop Structure

Part 1 | 1100–1300
Discussion and close reading of diverse micro-narrative forms through selected works.

Part 2 | 1400–1600
With basic editing tools and a one-minute video clip brought by each participant, we will look into, explore, and exercise the potential of a single frame. Taking it as a stretch exercise, a single frame—a single shot—may unfold into multiple shapes and trajectories.

*Bring your own laptop/tablet/phone with basic video editing tools, and a 1 one minute video clip you filmed with any tools that you would like to explore the potential.

**The workshop will be conducted in Cantonese or English depending on participants.

「微敍事」一詞由黎肖嫻於2003年提出，用以闡述她對聲影創作的概念性與批判性探索，往後延伸至實驗性的創作行動的討論。當歷史往往透過宏大敘事與紀念碑式史觀被傳達時，「微」轉向那些在政權史與經濟成就敘事中常被忽略的細小行動與具體實踐。「微敍事」是方法也是態度，重新訓練我們的注意力，觀照日常生活的質地與複雜性，揭示當代存在中可見與不可見的連結。一切其實無小事。

那麼，以「微敍事」出發的聲影創作會領我們到那裡？

工作坊結構
第一部分 | 1100–1300
透過精選作品，討論與細讀不同形態的「微敍事」實踐。

第二部分 | 1400–1600
以基本剪接工具，配合每位參與者自備的一段一分鐘錄像，觀察、探索並練習發掘單一畫格的潛能。作為一次延展練習，一個畫格——一個鏡頭——都可能展開為多種形態與路徑。

*請自備手提電腦／平板電腦／手機（具備基本影片剪接工具），以及一段由你以任何工具拍攝、長約一分鐘、希望進一步探索其潛能的錄像片段。
