Dreaming of arriving terribly late at a public exam that could influence your future… A departed loved one returning in full vitality to arrange personal affairs and urging you to take good care of yourself. … Dreams and memories are often linked in ways subtle and profound. Through dreams, we revisit our memories and explore other possibilities in our familiar worlds. Conversely, gazing back at memories feels like wandering in a dream, where we observe the fading outlines of the past and try to grasp at the flow of time.
Reflecting on the connection between dreams and memories, the artist created a video installation titled The River Basin of Dream-like Images as the central artwork for this exhibition. This centre piece, which consists of 63 segments of home video system’s (VHS) footage from 20 years ago, will interact with 10 abstract animation pieces rendered under the theme of dreams. This setup creates a cross-generational dialogue between the old and the new, forming a multi-channel space. Within this interwoven dream-like space, images flow, dreams and memories converge, forming a continuous, intersecting river basin of thought. The audiences may then move freely within the streams, observing rationally and flowing emotionally.
